Bishop Larry Silva announces the "Resumption of Sunday Mass Obligation":
Effective Easter Sunday, April 4 (or as of the Easter Vigil, April 3), I am ending the dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass, which has been in effect since mid-March, 2020. However, anyone who is sick, may have been exposed to anyone with COVID-19, or who has a health condition that would endanger themselves or others by being present in church, continues to be dispensed.

"As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, this new year brings some hope in controlling the virus through vaccines. The State of Hawaii vaccination plan is being implemented at this time. You may have some moral or ethical concerns regarding the potential contents (compromised cell lines/fetal cells) of these vaccines in relation to our Catholic teaching and faith."  Click on the link below to read the Bishop's letter in its entirety.

Master Plan Update - September 30, 2021
The review of construction documents continues with both our 3rd party reviewer and the Department of Planning & Permitting (DPP). Although not completed we are beginning to receive preliminary comments. Most of the comments received thus far are requests for additional details:
    • Enhanced specifications/details for the baptismal font
    • Expanded water & piping details
    • Enlarged sacristy plan
    • Additional details regarding electrical power lines, panel schedules, lighting, data com/fire alarm conduit

Code review uncovered an interpretation error regarding fire suppression. Our initial review determined that due to sufficient building adjacencies, status as an occasional use meeting facility, a structure less than 12,000 square feet, single level structure, and a development area less than 1 acre we would not have to include fire sprinklers in our fire protection plan. Unfortunately, DPP pointed to an obscure section of the International Building Code (IBC) that states that the occupant load of 300 or more requires an automatic sprinkler system regardless of meeting all other conditions qualifying for an exemption. An expense we had hoped to avoid!
We have already addressed the comments received thus far and hope to avoid any additional surprises. Until the review is complete we await any additional comments requiring our attention and hope that permits are approved soon.
