Bishop Larry Silva announces the "Resumption of Sunday Mass Obligation":
Effective Easter Sunday, April 4 (or as of the Easter Vigil, April 3), I am ending the dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass, which has been in effect since mid-March, 2020. However, anyone who is sick, may have been exposed to anyone with COVID-19, or who has a health condition that would endanger themselves or others by being present in church, continues to be dispensed.

"As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, this new year brings some hope in controlling the virus through vaccines. The State of Hawaii vaccination plan is being implemented at this time. You may have some moral or ethical concerns regarding the potential contents (compromised cell lines/fetal cells) of these vaccines in relation to our Catholic teaching and faith."  Click on the link below to read the Bishop's letter in its entirety.

Master Plan Update - September 6, 2020
The first pre-construction services meeting was conducted on 8/26/20 via ZOOM. The focus of the meeting centered on site development.

Electrical Service
  • The current plan will phase construction beginning with the demolition of the Parish Office & Breezeway while leaving the existing electrical transformer and CMU wall with power & data com connections.
  • Building New Transformer Lines underground from the existing pathway in the middle of the existing parking lot & installing a new transformer.
  • Demolition of the existing transformer and power lines.
The biggest concern at this point is HECO’s unresponsiveness.  A formal application for preliminary engineering & payment of initial engineering fees was submitted to HECO in March of 2019.  Several inquiries as to the status of our application has received no response.  Douglas Engineering’s follow up with revised site plan drawings in May of 2020 and an inquiry has still not generated a response from HECO.  We are attempting to seek alternative contacts to elicit a response.  The new transformer is a critical path item.

Other Utility Services
  • Sewer, water, & stormwater drainage. A portion of the existing sewer line must be relocated away from the new church footprint.
  • Water lines need to be relocated in certain areas.
  • A storm water detention basin must be constructed with associated manhole locations & drain lines.  The basin will be located adjacent to the existing church.
  • Storm water runoff will drain into the city’s storm water culvert located along North Road.
Further investigation must be conducted to determine exactly where the existing water lines are located.  We learned after locating a water leak in a location where pipes were not supposed to be located according to original drawings.
The table below summarizes the capital campaign progress and financial status.
