Clergy Page READ MORE week of June 28, 2020

Jesus also outlines the rewards of discipleship.  Following Jesus will cost us everything, but what we gain is greater than what we lose.  The disciples may not have had an abundance of riches when the Lord called them to follow Him, but what they had, they left behind.  Discipleship is costly.  Jesus promised persecutions.  But the narrow way leads to expansive joys.  The Lord declared that there is indeed reward in giving up everything to follow Him, both in this life and in the life to come.  And the reward will far exceed any cost.

Joel Osteen said: “If you sacrifice what you have for the Lord, He will multiply your talents, he will multiply your resources.  God is not into addition.  He is into multiplication.”  In following Jesus, we certainly lose or waste time, energy and even money.  But we experience immeasurable joy in serving, in being able to help others.

We therefore ask the Lord to bestow upon us the abundance of His grace that we may always be ready to give up everything in order to follow Him.  May we not be afraid of following Jesus for fear of losing the people we love or our possessions.  In following the Lord, giving up everything is receiving everything much more beyond imagining.  Amen!
