Ma Ke Kula Update - September 22, 2013 Bulletin

A Step Closer …

In last week’s bulletin, we gave a recap of Ma Ke Kula: August 25, 2013 bulletin: The need for professional  help was reinforced as the Ma Ke Kula Committee recognized their value in helping us avert serious financial or legal issues, guide us through technical & artistic details, building codes, financial implications, and potential infrastructure issues while organizing a collaborative effort across all stakeholders within the parish.  A request for qualified architects/design consultants was developed with the overarching objective of determining whether Ma Ke Kula is required for our future, and if so, what is the appropriate use of that property.  September 1, 2013 bulletin: Three of the 11 firms responded with questions regarding the request for qualified architects/design consultants that we sent.  As we wait for proposals, the committee is gearing up for the review of each firm’s proposal and the scheduling of interviews.  A list of interview questions has been prepared that will allow the committee to evaluate and make an appropriate selection of our working partner.  September 8, 2013 bulletin: Received information from 4 potential candidates that, among other things, addresses an overview of the consultants qualifications, project management style, engineering design capabilities, members of their project team, performance management methodology, understanding of deliverables, training & information transfer, planning services capabilities, approach to partnering & stakeholder communication, view on sustainability, and experiences in assisting with financing for non-profits.  The committee now focuses on reviewing and digesting the mounds of information supplied which will ultimately allow us to make an informed decision as to which candidates we will interview.
As of today, September 21, 2013: We scheduled interviews with all four architectural/design firms for mid-October 2013.  Two are local firms and the other two are from the mainland.  We trust that a clear candidate will emerge out of the interview process.  We will keep you posted.
